Blir tipsad om artikel i Haaretz om syrienkramaren tillika Ship to Gaza-organisatören George Galloway: Organizer of Gaza flotilla sought assistance from Assad’s office.
al-Assad hälsas, hyllas och beundras av fd brittiska MP Galloway som hos al-Assad och hans mediarådgivare Bouthaina Shaaban ber om och utlovas hjälp och stöd för ”the Gaza flotilla” som på väg till Gaza behöver passera syriska hamnstaden Latakaia.
Det är Galloways email-korrespondans med nämnda Shaaban som läckt ut och publicerats. Galloway beskriver ideligen Syrien som ”the last Arab country in this historic endeavour” och hälsar att ”I knew that I could rely on you…”.
Han fortsätter ”I am writing once again to ask for Syria’s co-operation although I do not doubt it for one moment. Syria is as I have often said is the last castle of Arab dignity.” Det senare mailet avslutas med ”In any case please convey my respect and my admiration to His Excellency the President.”
Galloway har också officiellt uttryckt sitt stöd för al-Assad. I en artikel av Hitchens citeras Galloway som i juli 2005 talade på al-Assad Biblioteket i Damaskus:
”Syria is lucky to have Bashar al-Assad as her President. (…) I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability.”
Jag påmindes samtidigt om att Ali Esbati i sin blogg har lyft fram nämnda Galloway som en hyvens person. I bloggen Esbatis kommentarer låter Esbati sig imponeras av al-Assadbeundraren.
