Georgierna är inte helt nöjda med hur Sverige agerade när EU nyligen tinade upp förhållandena med Ryssland. Men det kunde ha varit värre. Det går att utläsa i The Georgian Times:

The
member states of the EU explained their decision with different
arguments. Traditional Russia-friendly states such as France, Germany
and Italy argued that Moscow had essentially fulfilled its commitments
under the six-point agreement. Sweden and UK, which had on many
occasions strongly advocated blocking talks with Moscow for its
bullying of Georgia, in their part, changed their minds because, as
they said, restoring negotiations with Russia would be a better option.

Fortunately,
not all agree that Russia has fairly lived up to its commitment, but
unfortunately most go only that far. Mr. Miliband, the British Foreign
Secretary, who some time ago loudly condemned Russian behavior, did
recognize Russia’s non-compliance with the Sarkozy-Medvedev agreement,
but nevertheless issued a joint statement with Carl Blidt, the Swedish
foreign minister and a notable friend of the Georgian president,
stating, “We can support resuming negotiations on the new EU-Russia
Framework agreement because we believe that the issues that will be
covered are in the EU’s interests as well as Russia’s.” “Isolating
Russia is not a good option for us,” said David Miliband, adding, “It’s
better to engage in a systematic and hard-hitting way.”

Artikeln har underrubriken ”A modern Munich?”, men vi får väl hoppas att historien tar en annan vändning.
