Från Lincoln till Obama

Till skillnad från de flesta svenska tidningar är New York Times väldigt bra på att utnyttja sin enorma skattkista av arkivmaterial på sin sajt.

Här har de samlat alla tidningens endorsements av presidentkandidater, från Lincoln 1860 till Obama 2008.
Eisenhower var den sista republikanen som fick tidningens stöd, 1956.

Om Lincoln, 1860:
”Things will go on very much as they have hitherto – except that we shall have honesty and manliness, instead of meanness and corruption in the Executive departments, and a decent regard for the opinions of mankind in the tone and talk of the Government on the subject of Slavery”.

Om Walter Mondale, 1984:
”Walter Mondale has all the dramatic flair of a trigonometry teacher. His Nordic upbringing makes it hard for him to brag. The first debate may have been the high point of his political personality. But there’s power to his plainness”.
