Andre Bauer, republikansk viceguvernör i South Carolina, förklarar sin syn på den ”bidragskultur” som, enligt honom, sprider sig som en löpeld genom USA just nu:

“My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.”

Bauer är alltså den person som tar över guvernörsposten i en av USA:s mest konservativa delstater, om nuvarande guvernören Mark Sanford skulle avgå.

Han utveckar sitt resonemang i en artikel: ”[It’s time to…] confront babies having babies. Somebody’s got to talk about this. Politicians don’t want to talk about it anymore because it’s politically incorrect.”

Mark Sanford gjorde som bekant en politisk gimmick av att neka stimlanspaketpengar som skulle gå till bland annat arbetslöshetsersättning och skolor i South Carolina.
