I World Politics Review skriver Richard Gowan (research director at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations) om att spekulationerna redan börjat om vem som 2016 ska utses till Ban Ki-moons efterträdare när denne lämnar i slutet av det året dvs ungefär samtidigt med det amerikanska presidentvalet.

There is increasing talk of Kristalina Georgieva, the European commissioner for humanitarian aid, as a compelling candidate. A Bulgarian with experience in the World Bank as well as Brussels, she has won widespread admiration for her tough-minded management of the EU’s assistance in crisis zones from Syria to the Central African Republic. Bulgaria has maintained better relations with Russia than most other European states. And there is a general sense in New York that it is time for the first female U.N. secretary-general.
