Varför arbetar inte de unga ?

Irwin Stelzer är ekonom på den amerikanska tankesmedjan Hudson Institute och kolumnist i Sunday Times (London). Han är en vass skribent som aldrig väjer för obehagliga sanningar. Han har exempelvis letat efter förklaringarna till att så många unga amerikaner idag väljer att inte arbeta: ”It is not the old, retiring workers who have retreated to the couch but younger workers, supposedly in the prime learning and productive years of their lives. They seem either unwilling or unable to find jobs. Only one in three people aged 16-19 are working, or looking for work, and 20% of that small group is unemployed. This is the group that should be learning trade skills or the equally important social skills of punctuality and proper attitudes towards co-workers, employers and customers. They are the nation’s future. Yet in huge numbers they are not learning to work.
